Switzerland

Passing Through the Alps

Switzerland exists in this trip as a moving window. I spend the day on a train traveling from Milan to Paris, winding through the Alps on mountain tracks that feel carved into the landscape. The train moves slowly enough to let everything register. Green slopes rising into jagged peaks. Cows and sheep scattered across hillsides. Small villages tucked into valleys that look untouched by urgency. At times I am in glass-lined cars where the world feels close enough to touch. I do nothing but look out the window and let the country pass through me. Switzerland is not a destination that day. It is a breath between places, and it is unforgettable.
